Last week we went to a wedding and in my usual style I didn't think much about what I was going to wear until the last minute. I started making a dress two days before (thinking I was being quite good that I wasn't making it on the day of) and by the time I got the dress together and tried it on I realised it was WAY too formal and I looked like a part of the bridal party instead of a guest. I also felt I resembled Morticia Addams a wee bit too closely so decided to scrap the dress for this occasion and move onto something else.
The evening before the wedding I drew up a pattern based on this dress in the hopes that I could whip one together in time. So on the day of the wedding (yes, way to leave it to the last minute) I went out in the morning and bought some knit fabric with a knit lace fabric for the top layer. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the end product. It fit like a glove and didn't look too homemade. The only thing Morticia-ish about it was the black-dress-white-leg combo, which I accept because I haven't got much pigment in my skin and fake tan looks like paint on my pale legs. So off we went to the evening wedding where I spent the entire time avoiding my son who kept trying to hide under my dress. Lovely child.
